Preventive Maintenance - Reminders

Preventive maintenance support is implemented in the form of a reminder service in MaintainMe application. The service is consisted of four reminder options, which are described below.

Two of these options are based on the date a specific type was performed and the date it will be performed in the future. The other two of the options are based on the running maintenance meter of the specific property under maintenance.

In more detail:

Date based reminders

Date based reminders are in themselves separated in two categories. The standalone and periodic reminders.

Date based reminders will retrieve from the database the date the last maintenance of the selected type has taken place and start counting after that day onward. A specific maintenance type for a specific property to be preformed at a specific date or with a specific frequency. Examples of this type of preventive maintenance is brake fluid replacement in cars every two years, air condition units yearly maintenance etc.

The input fields presented to the user in the case of standalone reminders are the maintenance type and the date it will be performed on.

Accordingly in the case of periodic reminders, the user has to select the maintenance type and the frequency that the maintenance will be performed. This option will retrieve from the database the date the last maintenance of the selected type has taken place and start counting after that day onward. It is prudent to set this type of maintenance reminder after you have performed one maintenance of the type you will want to monitor.

An email will be sent every time the expiration date of a reminder has come. Standalone reminder will notify the user once and in the case of periodic reminders, this will occur every time the specified period has elapsed.

Periodic reminders are updated every time a maintenance type is preformed that has a periodic reminder related to it. Based on the date this maintenance is performed, the reminder will reset itself and wait for the specified period of time to elapse. If a new maintenance of the same type is performed in an intermediate date, the reminder will reset itself etc.

Meter based reminders

Meter based reminders are likewise separated in two categories.

The meter based reminder is a bit different than date based reminder. Meter based reminders keep track of the maximum value of the meter field existing in all maintenance records. In some type of properties this field, has no meaning so it will naturally be left with the default zero value. In these type of properties, meter based reminders will not be applicable.

The standalone meter based reminder.

This reminder will accept a maintenance type per property and a meter value. The reminder will be activated when the meter of the specific property in which the selected maintenance type belongs surpasses the selected meter value for the reminder.

The periodic meter based reminder

This option will allow the user to create a reminder that will be activated every time the selected property meter reading reaches the specified meter step. The initial value of the reminder is the maximum meter value of the day the reminder is created. For example if we want to be reminded of an engine oil change of our bike every 3.000km's and the bike today has 10.000km's, we set up an oil change meter based periodic reminder today, and will receive the reminder email when the bike mileage exeeds 13.000km's, the next one will be send when the bike reaches 16.000km's etc.
